Client Success Story

Char L., age 80

“Before I started Brain Integration, I felt much more discouraged and hopeless. There were so many things that felt hard, and I think I had accepted that this was just the way I was.” — Char

Before beginning Brain Integration, Char was experiencing challenges with cognitive clarity, coordination, visual tracking, and confidence in her own abilities. She described feeling discouraged by tasks that felt harder than they should, and she had begun to believe that some of these struggles were simply part of who she was.

Initial assessment showed reading comprehension at approximately 50% on a 3rd grade level passage. Working memory was within a functional range, with a digit span of 6 forward and 5 backward, but there was still room for improvement in mental organization, processing, and ease.

In the beginning, Char found movement and eye tracking activities very difficult. Marching patterns, coordinated movement, and visual tracking exercises were frustrating for her, and she frequently said, “I hate doing this.”

Following Brain Integration:

  • Reading comprehension improved from 50% on a 3rd grade level passage to 95% on a 5th grade level passage
  • Working memory increased to 7 digits forward and 6 backward
  • Eye tracking improved significantly
  • Marching and coordinated movement became easier
  • Cognitive clarity and follow-through improved
  • Her confidence, self-trust, and sense of possibility increased

“You showed me what my strengths were, what my weaknesses were, and you didn’t leave me there with my weaknesses.” — Char

As the Brain Integration process continued, Char reported that she was thinking more clearly and feeling less overwhelmed by tasks that previously would have been very difficult. She was able to complete a significant amount of important paperwork with more ease than she expected, and everyday problem-solving began to feel more manageable.

“Life is easier. It’s like I have a little helper. Figuring out stuff is easier. Like I have a backup energy.” — Char

The changes were not only cognitive. Char also noticed meaningful improvements in coordination and confidence through her participation in Dance for Joy, a movement class that required her to watch a leader, coordinate her body, follow sequences, and keep up with the group.

“I do not think I would have been able to do it in the same way before working with Katie. My coordination got better, and as it got better, it became more fun. I stayed with it instead of giving up, I practiced, and I ended up performing with the group. That was a very big thing for me.” — Char

By the end of Brain Integration, the same movement and eye tracking activities that had once felt frustrating became easier and more natural. Char was no longer complaining through the exercises, and she could feel the difference in her own body and brain.

“One of the things that meant so much to me was that Katie could see how hard certain things were for me. With the marching and the eye movements, she could actually see that it was not easy for me to do. That matters. It helped me understand that these things were real, and not just something wrong with me. And as we continued, she could see the changes too.” — Char

Perhaps the most profound shift was in Char’s sense of herself. She began speaking up more, making different choices for herself, and trusting her own thinking in new ways. What had once felt impossible started to feel possible.

“Before, it was like, ‘No, I cannot do that. I cannot do that.’ Now it is more like, ‘Maybe I can do that.’ It feels like some of the filters and beliefs have been removed, and I am able to see more clearly. I can see change in me. I can see change in what I can do. And other people can see a difference too.” — Char

As someone on the autism spectrum, Char also felt that Brain Integration could be especially helpful for others who have long sensed that their brain works differently.

“I always knew there was something different in my brain. I had difficulty with math, spatial things, and even knowing right from left. I think this work could be very helpful for people who know something is different in their brain and want to shift it, especially young people before those struggles become part of how they see themselves.” — Char

Char’s progress reflects meaningful improvements in reading comprehension, eye tracking, coordination, cognitive clarity, self-trust, and emotional possibility. At 80 years old, her story is a powerful reminder that the brain and nervous system can continue to change, and that greater ease, clarity, and confidence are possible at any age.
